Newark’s Small Biz of the Year: Kings Family Restaurant & Catering

“The best halal food in town,” may be the motto at Kings Family Restaurant and Catering on Clinton Avenue in the South Ward SID. But the phrase tells only part of the story about the restaurant owned by Younis Moheisen. Recognized as much for Moheisen’s commitment to community needs as for the quality of the food and service they provide, Kings was named Small Business of the Year by the Newark Community Economic Development Corporation (NCEDC).

A leader in the local business community and a member of the South Ward SID’s Board of Directors, Younis Moheisen has shown his commitment through his sponsorship of a wide-range of activities, events and initiatives including the establishment and ongoing support for the SID’s proactive economic and community develop efforts, as well as our schools, health and wellness programs and outreach programs to help feed the city’s homeless population. A notable example is the free HIV testing program hosted at the restaurant every third Saturday of the month, in partnership with the Hyacinth AIDS Foundation.

When it comes to the food at Kings Family Restaurant, you will find everything from breakfast favorites served all day long, to classic Southern-Style food, burgers, salads and more. The restaurant is open seven days a week, and offers both take out and catering service.

Younis Moheisen, owner of Kings Family Restaurant, received congratulations for his restaurant being named Newark’s Small Business of the Year from South Ward Councilman John Sharpe James.
