6th Annual LPGA USGA Girls Golf Invitational Coming to Newark’s South Ward – July 16th
Did you know Newark’s Weequahic Golf Course, designed in 1913, is the oldest public golf course in New Jersey?
Located in historic Weequahic Park, the South Ward’s green oasis, the beautiful and challenging 18 holes will be the site of the 6th Annual LPGA USGA Girls Golf Invitational on Monday, July 16 from 7 AM to 6 PM. Managed by the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, Weequahic Golf Course is located at 1 Thomas Carmichael Drive.
The event is hosted by Girls Golf of Greater Newark, the only national initiative of its kind with girls getting the opportunity to work with a PGA or LPGA Instructor to learn the basics in rules, etiquette, full swing, short game, and putting. Just for girls, the program provides the opportunity to achieve success, progress in golf while establishing a life-long interest in the game. The program also helps girls develop self-esteem and provides grant opportunities and a network in which girls feel comfortable enjoying the game.
Registration is open for the Invitational and girls from the South Ward and beyond are encouraged to show their skills. Beginner and Advanced Beginner Flights will compete based on age groups. Sponsors and volunteers are welcome. For more information or to register visit www.greaternewarkgirlsgolf.com. Remember, registration closed on June 27th!
